Staff System Engineer
Job Summary

Our ideal candidate for this position is a hands-on, self-driven system engineering expert with a strong product-level troubleshooting experience, and prior experience with modeling, simulation, and algorithm development of end-to-end physical layer and front-end calibration algorithms for wireless transceivers.

In this role, you will drive and optimize the physical layer performance of the market-leading G1 products and influence the technology and development of next-generation products. In addition, you will also be instrumental in the design and development of scalable test methodologies in our automated framework to characterize our hardware products and software releases with a goal of achieving the best product KPIs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • As part of the system engineering team that oversees the hardware and software releases, be a key player in ensuring that the products meet their physical layer system specifications and KPIs
  • Provide daily analysis and support to performance results coming out of the CI/CD pipelines, and provide guidance to infrastructure software engineers to improve the tools that are used to identify performance gaps.
  • Perform root cause analysis of performance gaps using a combination of simulations, lab experiments and field data analysis.
  • Contribute to the specification and design of new software capabilities to improve the performance and availability of the G1 platform
  • Develop algorithms in Matlab that support new features and enhancements, partner with software teams to take the design through implementation, and verify the operational software on an RF platform.
  • Spell out and propose test methodologies to touch on positive and negative test cases for physical layer features
  • Support in developing Python based automation capabilities to qualify new features and to expand our existing test coverage

Required Skills & Experience:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related fields
  • 9+yrs systems engineer and product background, preferably for wireless products
  • Strong foundation in wireless radio receiver/transmitter architecture, sampling theory and signal processing
  • Prior experience working on 3GPP or WLAN based products or other OFDM MIMO based wireless products
  • Excellent understanding of physical layer algorithms and wireless communication protocols
  • Strong understanding of RF impairments, their impact on transceiver performance and calibration / compensation techniques
  • Familiar with receiver state machines/control loops, associated algorithms and design trade-offs
  • Hands-on engineer and a problem-solver who can own characterization, triage and enhancements to drive superior modem performance
  • Familiarity with lab equipment such as signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power meters, signal analyzers and network analyzers
  • Excellent analytical skills, communication skills and a go-getter attitude
  • Comfortable using Python for development of experiments and regression suites

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience building Matlab simulators for calibration and RF system modeling
  • Experience with link budgeting (noise-figure, implementation losses), gain table design, calibration state machine design, PLL loop filter design for phase noise optimization, multi-radio coexistence
  • RF board bring-up experience

The salary range for this position is: $155,000 to $200,000

Compensation will be determined based on several factors including, but not limited to: skill set, years of experience and the employee’s geographic location.

Since our founding in 2009, we’ve been on a mission to accelerate the pace of bringing fast and affordable internet access — and all the benefits it provides — to the 90% of the world’s households who can’t get it. Through a decade of R&D and more than $400M of investment, we’ve created an entirely unique next-generation fixed wireless access technology, powering our first commercial platform, Gigabit 1 (G1). It delivers a game-changing advance in broadband economics in both mainstream and underserved markets, using either licensed or unlicensed spectrum. G1 started production in mid 2021 and has now been installed by over 160 service providers globally. We’re headquartered in Milpitas, California, with additional research and development in Pune, India.

G1 has been developed by an incredibly talented and pioneering core technical team. We are looking for more world-class problem solvers who can carry on our tradition of customer obsession and ground-breaking innovation. We’re well funded, growing incredibly quickly, maintaining a superb results-focused culture while we’re at it, and all grooving on the positive difference we are making for people all over the planet.
